Master Guide 91

I grew up in the small town of Wheat Ridge, CO and moved to Alaska with my wife Carol, in 1972, shortly after graduating college. After initially working as a construction in Anchorage for a couple years, we moved to the remote rural community King Salmon located on the Alaska Peninsula, at the head of Bristol Bay, and have been there ever since.

Shortly after moving to King Salmon, I began working as a packer for an outfitter in the King Salmon area, and quickly became an assistant guide working on Kodiak, the Alaska Peninsula and the Wrangle Mountains. I founded my business, Katmai Guide Service, in 1976 and have been guiding fishermen and hunters ever since. I went on to earn my Registered Guides license in the early 80s, and eventually my own federal guide areas in Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge, Becharof National Wildlife Refuge, Aniakchak National Preserve and later Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge.

What distinguishes me, my wife Carol and my son Joey is that we are year-round residents of the Bristol Bay region, and have been so for over 40 years. We do not base our operations in Seattle, Portland, Michigan, or wherever else. We really live here, understand and care about the resource and want to see it preserved for future generations. I truly enjoy the opportunity for every future season, as does my son. It is my goal to give you the best experience possible and teach you and your family about our amazing area and way of life.

Registered Guide 1277

I grew up on the Naknek River and have spent my entire life fishing, hunting, trapping and guiding in Bristol Bay area and all across Alaska. I grew up in the guiding profession working alongside my dad, Joe Klutsch where I continue to work to this day. I live in King Slamon year-round with my wife Crystale and our three pet Malamutes, where I guide fishing trips in the summer months and hunters in the spring and fall.

In 2003 when I turned 18, after working in camps for my dad for years as a packer and camp hand, I was the minimum age to qualify for my Assistant Guide License. By 2009 I had earned my Registered Guide License (RG 1277). I am also fully licensed with the US Coast Guard, having a 25 Gross Ton OUPV. Throughout the years I have been privileged enough to guide for many species alongside some of the finest guides in the profession all across Alaska, including the Brooks Range, Kodiak Island, and of course the Alaska Peninsula which I call home. In 2012 I founded my business, Aniakchak Guide Service, and earned my own federal areas in Arctic Refuge and Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge. In addition to having my own hunt guiding business, I still work alongside my dad at Katmai Guide Service to this day.

After spending my entire life in the area as a full time guiding professional, I guarantee that I am the most qualified person to show you the area and make your hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing experience the best that it can be!
