Travel Arrangements: Kodiak Island
Traveling to Kodiak from the lower 48 can sometimes be done in one day- arriving into Kodiak in the evening of that travel day. It is generally best to overnight in Anchorage and then fly to Kodiak in the morning, however. There are a number of good hotels in Kodiak where you can spend the night. Genreally we will have all of your room reservations pre made at the Comfort Inn, located just a block away from the airport. We will meet you on arrival and take you to the hotel.
Spending time in Kodiak offers the opportunity to see the harbor and the fishing fleet as well as the town, learning about its amazing history. Once in Kodiak you will need to go to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game offices and pick up your Brown Bear or Goat permit. It also offers an opportunity to pick up any last minute items in town. I will be there to help you with this process.
Following this, you will be taken to the air charter company who will fly you to the hunting area. We will have the reservations made in advance. You may pay for the flight at this time by credit card, check or cash. Like the Alaska Peninsula, weather conditions on Kodiak are dynamic and variable which requires you to be prepared for flight delays. These potential delays are often due to logistical considerations and most importantly, Your Safety. Be patient and flexible and we will get the job done!
